Biking

One of the best places in the ring of fire to get those legs burning is Mt. Hood. From countryside riding in the Hood River Valley to steep technical trails, Oregon has terrain to please any biker. A ride through the lush forests, rich with clean pine-scented oxygen, offers a magnificent way to enjoy Oregon's outdoors.
Cyclists have a wide host of single-tracks and wide paths to choose from around Mount Hood.
Cross-country ski trails, old logging roads, and paved backcountry roads offer many biking opportunities, but make sure to check where biking is allowed.
All wilderness areas are closed to bike use. Each trail has designated user groups, usually identified on US Forest Service maps and at the trailhead. Look for the symbol that represents the use you are interested in. If it is a shared-use trail, remember to slow down for hikers and horses.
Some places to tour Mt. Hood's forests include the "Old" Salmon River trail, an easygoing ride through old growth forest, Flag Mountain trail, a scenic ride from forest to ridge, and the Historic Columbia River Highway State trail that follows the road that Model T's used to motor on. Now the scenic path hosts hikers, cyclists, and runners as they wind alongside the cliffs above the Columbia River.
